A South Korean information technology contractor was sentenced on August 21, 2026, to three years in prison by a court in Busan for stealing school staff photographs and videos to manufacture illicit deepfake sexual content. The ruling, delivered by the Busan District Court’s Criminal Division 7, highlights ongoing legal actions against technology-enabled exploitation within public educational institutions.
Presiding Judge Lim Joo-hyuk issued the three-year prison sentence alongside mandatory requirements for the defendant. According to court records, the individual must complete 40 hours of a sexual violence treatment program. Additionally, the court imposed a 10-year employment restriction barring the offender from working in any capacity at institutions dedicated to children, adolescents, or individuals with disabilities.

The defendant, identified in court documents by his surname Mr. A and described as being in his 30s, worked as an IT contractor maintaining school computer systems across Busan. According to investigative findings released during the proceedings, Mr. A exploited his access to school networks over a four-year period from July 2021 through September 2025.
During this timeframe, the contractor systematically breached the personal computers and cloud storage accounts belonging to 194 staff members spread across 19 different schools. Investigators reported that the defendant copied hundreds of thousands of files—specifically totaling 221,921 files—onto an external USB drive. Utilizing this unauthorized repository of personal imagery, Mr. A manufactured at least 20 explicit synthetic videos and images utilizing deepfake technology.
The case underscores persistent vulnerabilities in institutional data security and the misuse of administrative access by contracted technical personnel. Law enforcement agencies arrested the contractor following the discovery of the security compromises within the regional school network, culminating in the trial and subsequent judgment rendered by the Busan District Court.
