Class 8 student Kayna Pal loses her life in morning collision on Dallupura Road; driver apprehended following local protests
A 12-year-old schoolgirl was killed on Friday morning when a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus ran over the scooter she was riding on in east Delhi's New Ashok Nagar area, local police reported. The incident, which occurred between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on Dallupura Road, prompted immediate public outrage and a swift police response.
The victim was identified as Kayna Pal, a Class 8 student at East Point School in Vasundhara Enclave, who resided in the Khichdipur area. According to investigators, she was commuting to school accompanied by a family member when a DTC bus struck their scooter from behind. The impact threw the child onto the roadway, where she suffered severe crush injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The bus driver, identified by authorities as 45-year-old S.K. Murad, initially fled the scene of the collision. Police confirmed that he was subsequently tracked down and taken into custody. The victim's body was transferred to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for a post-mortem examination and completion of legal formalities.
