Israeli Airstrike on Gaza City Apartment Kills Two, Medical Sources Say

An Israeli pre-dawn airstrike on Tuesday targeted a residential apartment near Gaza City's Al-Shifa Medical Complex, killing a Palestinian couple and wounding several other people, according to medical and local sources.

The strike, which occurred in western Gaza City near the Al-Rimal area and behind Al-Shifa's maternity department, set the apartment ablaze and caused extensive structural damage to nearby buildings. Emergency responders and local reports confirmed that heavy smoke and flames billowed from the site following the pre-dawn blast.

Medical personnel at Al-Shifa Hospital identified the victims as Akram Yassin and his wife, Dina Yassin, who was also identified in separate local reports as Dina Abu Bakr. Their bodies were received at the hospital alongside a number of individuals who sustained injuries in the attack.

The Israeli military stated that the operation was intended to target a Hamas fighter residing in the apartment, though officials did not immediately release further details regarding the identity or status of the targeted individual.

The incident follows a series of separate military strikes reported across the Gaza Strip on Monday, which medical authorities said killed at least four people. Humanitarian conditions across the enclave remain severely constrained as medical facilities contend with ongoing casualties and infrastructure damage.
