A Russian drone strike hit a crowded public park in the settlement of Nova Vodolaha in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region on Monday afternoon, killing six people—including three children—and injuring 15 others, according to Ukrainian officials.

The strike occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. local time while families and children were gathered in the area. Interior Minister Ivan Vyhivskyi stated that the fatalities included two women and an infant in a stroller. Subsequent casualty reports from regional authorities confirmed that the dead children included an approximately 14-month-old girl, an 11-year-old girl, and a 14-year-old girl. Three adult women, aged 28, 34, and 36, were also among those killed in the attack.

Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, initially reported three deaths and 14 injuries immediately following the blast. As emergency services, rescue personnel, and medical teams combed through the site, the death toll was later revised upward to six fatalities, with 15 wounded. Among the injured, officials reported that at least seven are children.

Ukrainian outlets and military monitors indicated that the munition utilized in the attack was a Geran-3-type drone. The impact caused widespread damage to the park's infrastructure and sparked immediate emergency responses, with ambulances evacuating the wounded to regional hospitals for urgent treatment.

In response to the strike, the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office announced the opening of a formal pre-trial investigation. The proceedings are being conducted under Part 2 of Article 438 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code, which addresses violations of the laws and customs of war. Investigators and forensic teams remain active at the scene to document the aftermath and compile evidence regarding the strike.

Nova Vodolaha is situated in the Kharkiv region, an area that has experienced frequent aerial bombardments and drone attacks throughout the ongoing conflict. Local authorities stated that recovery operations and damage assessments are continuing.
