Yemen’s Houthi movement claimed responsibility for a series of missile and drone operations targeting critical infrastructure across Saudi Arabia, prompting defensive interceptions by the Saudi-led coalition, according to regional and international reports.
The announcements followed a spike in cross-border hostilities over a 24-hour period. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea stated in a broadcast on the group's al-Masirah television that seven separate operations had been conducted against targets in Riyadh, Yanbu, Rabigh, Dammam, Najran, and Khamis Mushait.
According to the Houthi statement, the operations targeted major civil aviation hubs, including King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, and an airport in Najran near the Yemeni border. The group also asserted that strikes were directed at a Saudi Aramco facility in Yanbu, the Rabigh oil refinery on the Red Sea coast, crude-oil pumping stations along the East-West Pipeline, and the Khamis Mushait air base in southwestern Saudi Arabia.
Saudi-led coalition spokesman Major General Turki al-Maliki announced that coalition defense forces successfully intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched toward Riyadh, an aerial drone in the Riyadh region, and a cruise missile aimed at Khamis Mushait. Independent verification of the full scope of the Houthi claims regarding the remaining targets has not been established.
The reported exchange marks a continuation of long-running hostilities between the Houthi movement and the Saudi-led coalition, which intervened in Yemen's civil conflict. Further details regarding structural damage or casualties remain limited as authorities assess the aftermath of the cross-border activity.
