Overview of the Latest Attacks
Continuous Russian missile and drone strikes targeting Kyiv over the past 24 hours have killed at least four people and injured 14 others, according to updates from the Kyiv City Military Administration and Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko. The barrage, which intensified overnight and continued into Thursday morning, struck multiple districts across the capital, damaging residential buildings, commercial properties, and municipal infrastructure.
Emergency services reported that a strike hit a four-story commercial building in the Solomianskyi district, sparking a heavy fire and killing two people while injuring two others. Earlier in the day, falling debris from an intercepted drone in the Holosiivskyi district resulted in another fatality. Local authorities confirmed that casualties across the capital include multiple individuals hospitalized with acute blast trauma and burns, with at least two patients listed in serious condition.
Impact on Infrastructure and Utilities
The extensive aerial assault severely disrupted municipal services across the capital. Private energy operator DTEK, acting under instructions from the national grid operator Ukrenergo, instituted emergency power shutoffs across Kyiv and surrounding districts, including Brovary, Bucha, Vyshhorod, and Boryspil.
The voltage drops and power cuts directly affected water distribution networks. The Kyivvodokanal utility reported an acute loss of water pressure across municipal networks in the Holosiivskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Solomianskyi, and Shevchenkivskyi districts after electrical power to primary pumping stations was disrupted. Emergency response teams and municipal repair crews remain deployed across the affected zones to stabilize the grid and extinguish lingering fires once air-raid alerts subside.
Nationwide Air Defense Response
Ukraine’s Air Force reported that the assault on the capital was part of a broader, mass aerial barrage involving 142 Shahed-type and high-speed jet-powered drones launched nationwide overnight. Ukrainian air defense systems successfully intercepted or electronically suppressed 126 of the incoming drones.
The deployment of fast-moving, jet-powered Unmanned Aerial Vehicles has compressed warning times for air defense units and residents alike. Municipal authorities continue to urge citizens to heed air-raid warnings and remain in designated shelters as search-and-rescue operations proceed at impact sites across Kyiv.
